Experience the Power of Resilient Communities at UWNCNM’s Mosaic Celebration
Join us for an inspiring evening at the Mosaic Celebration, where we will showcase the incredible impact of trust-based philanthropy in our communities. This special event features the first public screening of The Gift of Trust, a documentary produced by Visionary Organizing Lab, highlighting United Way of North Central New Mexico’s innovative Resilient Communities initiative.
A New Approach to Community Investment
Resilient Communities is UWNCNM’s trust-based philanthropic program directed at community-driven systems change. Projects funded were selected by local advisory councils and focus on food access, community self-reliance, and economic autonomy. Rather than imposing rigid funding structures, this approach empowers organizations with the flexibility and trust they need to create sustainable solutions. The funded projects contribute to solving specific challenges that neighborhoods and communities face.
Meet the Changemakers
Through this initiative, UWNCNM has awarded three-year grants to outstanding community organizations dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods and promoting economic resilience. In Santa Fe County, recipients include Bienvenidos Outreach, Earth Care New Mexico, Mother Nature Center, Poeh Cultural Center, Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute, Santa Fe Indigenous Center, and Three Sisters Collective/Full Circle Farm. Meanwhile, in Valencia County, grants were awarded to Cotton Blossom Farm, Valencia Community Action Network, and Valencia County Community Fund. Each of these organizations is making a profound difference, from supporting food security and Indigenous sovereignty to fostering economic opportunities and environmental sustainability.
Resilient Communities Showcase
As part of the Mosaic Celebration, we invite you to the Resilient Communities Showcase, a morning session on April 17 designed as a community fair. During this event, we will be joined by the following grantees showcasing the work they are doing with United Way funding, including a Q&A session with their executive directors:
- Bienvenidos Outreach supports the homeless population and low-income families. Their Gardens For All project provides growing towers for housed clients, with training on cultivating herbs and vegetables and care for the towers.
- Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute advocates for farmers and provides equitable access to fresh, local food. Their Local Food For All mobile farmers’ market sells produce at cost in food desert areas on Santa Fe’s south side.
- Valencia Community Action Network (VCAN) creates opportunities for community-based action. VCAN is creating two community gardens involving area residents and expanding food reclamation projects at local farms
Discover the Journey
The Gift of Trust offers an in-depth look at UWNCNM’s journey into trust-based philanthropy, capturing the lessons learned along the way. The documentary traces UWNCNM’s transition into a new kind of grant-making and the development of true partnerships with community agencies. It highlights the resilience, creativity, and collaboration that define these community-driven projects and the role of trust in achieving collective impact.
