Inspiring Futures: Hayes Middle School Hosts Career Exploration Day
On May 20, 2025, Hayes Middle School buzzed with energy and curiosity as students participated in a full-day Career Exploration Event organized by the Albuquerque Career Connect partnership. This event brought together professionals from diverse industries to help students envision their futures and explore exciting career paths.

A Day of Discovery
The event was structured around four interactive stations, including:
- Explora: A hands-on science and technology experience.
- Be Pro Be Proud: A mobile unit showcasing skilled trades.
- The Holland Party: A self-assessment activity where students explored six personality types—Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional—and matched them with potential careers.
- Employer Panels: Professionals shared personal stories and career insights through engaging activities like “3 Truths and a Stereotype” and object-based icebreakers.
Each 45-minute session allowed students to rotate between stations, engaging with professionals in small groups and asking questions about their work, education, and career journeys.
Voices from the Community
The event was a collaborative effort involving local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. “The most rewarding part for many was seeing students show genuine interest in employment and career possibilities” – Business Partner from Sandia Labs.
Teachers noted that the event aligned well with their curriculum and helped students boost confidence, enhance soft skills, and explore leadership potential.
Looking Ahead
The “Find Your Future!” event stands as a shining example of what’s possible when community, education, and opportunity intersect.
