Gabe Castro - 90 Faces of United Way
When Gabe Castro was a boy, his family spent time at the Ronald McDonald House in Albuquerque while his ill brother was receiving care. The hospital room, the wires, the hospital chairs, the whole experience informed his passion to give back now as a Board member and highly engaged donor to UWNCNM.
“There were people who provided funding to organizations like that so my family could be together,” he said. “I feel a duty to sustain that so people will have a chance for what they need.”
Gabe’s participation – as a donor group member, member of the Finance Committee and Investment subcommittee, and Chair of the Community Investment Committee – comes with appreciation for others providing vital mentorship to him. He appreciates the organizations “who come out to support and provide examples” to him in his career. (Gabe is the Director of Operations for Adult Medical Specialties at Presbyterian Healthcare Services.) His time as a volunteer has never been onerous, he said, instead, “it feeds my soul seeing every volunteer so engaged.”
Gabe is confident about UWNCNM’s next 90 years, “I hope we’re still doing the same work and including the voices of everyone. I want to be a part of making that difference.”
