Cotton Blossom Gardens Recognized by United Way Worldwide’s Courage Project
We are thrilled to share that Cotton Blossom Gardens, a Resilient Communities partner of United Way of North Central New Mexico, has been selected as a grant recipient through The Courage Project—a national initiative launched by United Way Worldwide and a coalition of major philanthropic institutions.
Led by Janice Lucero, Cotton Blossom Gardens is revitalizing Native American agricultural traditions in New Mexico through a working farm that also serves as an educational hub. By reconnecting Indigenous communities with traditional farming practices and cultural knowledge, the organization is helping to build a more resilient, self-sustaining future rooted in heritage and healing. Their work exemplifies the courage and vision that The Courage Project seeks to honor.
Launched by United Way Worldwide alongside a coalition of national nonprofits and major philanthropic institutions—including the MacArthur Foundation, Marguerite Casey Foundation, and others—The Courage Project recognizes individuals and organizations across the country who show principled leadership in their communities.
We’re also excited to note that Laundry Love was named as an additional award recipient. While Laundry Love is a national organization, it is supported locally by UWNCNM to provide free laundry services to neighbors in need across central New Mexico—helping meet basic needs with dignity.
We celebrate Cotton Blossom Gardens and all those honored through The Courage Project for their dedication to creating stronger, more inclusive communities.
