Transforming Communities: Empowering North Central NM through College and Career Readiness
A powerful movement is underway to enhance college and career readiness in North Central New Mexico. Fueled by a shared vision, a partnership of leaders from nonprofits, foundations, education, business, and government has come together to nurture the quality and quantity of work-based learning and career pathways in the region.
This group has embraced a bold mission: to ensure that all students in North Central NM engage in at least one relevant work-based learning experience before graduating. This ambitious goal reflects a commitment to equipping young people with the skills, knowledge, and experiences they need to thrive in the 21st-century workforce. The community-led approach of the partnership aims to drive systems change by promoting collaboration among diverse stakeholders and aligning resources and efforts toward a shared goal.
Key to this approach is the formation of a Project Team of leaders who bring a range of perspectives and expertise to the table. This team will work to expand access to high-quality work-based learning opportunities for students to develop the skills and competencies they need to succeed in the workforce. This will come about by creating events and activities that will connect employers to students and teachers to better elevate the skills students will need to be successful after high school. The team is committed to prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion, to empower all students to reach their full potential, regardless of their socioeconomic status or background.
In the end, the work of the team is about more than just preparing students for jobs – it’s about empowering them to become active, engaged citizens who are equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern world.
