John Carey
Member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society

John Carey has a long list of community endeavors he has served. As a United Way volunteer and donor, John used his background as president of the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce and president of the New Mexico Society of CPAs (among other things) as a launching pad for his extensive involvement. Once he became a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society, he became more active in UWNCNM and eventually served as Chair of the Board of Directors.

For John and his wife, Julie, meeting many United Way executives and donors from all over the world at the annual meeting of United Way Worldwide (UWW) in New York in 2019 was a highlight. Another memorable time was a meeting in Omaha hosted by UWW and members of the Warren Buffett family who briefed attendees on philanthropic trends.

John is a clearly a committed and involved UWNCNM donor and volunteer. He is eager to see UWNCNM continue its work to help those most in need.

“United Way should continue to aggressively monitor and analyze our community’s social, educational, housing, food, and family needs to determine how to best deploy our resources to assist those of our neighbors most in need.”
