Empowering Change: DEI United Grants to Support Emerging BIPOC Leaders
UWNCNM and Albuquerque Community Foundation (ACF) will be providing grants to support nonprofit leaders impacted by the systemic inequities that are deeply rooted in the structures and institutions of society that disproportionately affect marginalized groups due to historical, structural, and institutional factors. The DEI United: Equity in Leadership Initiative grant application is now open and closes on November 13, 2023. Recipients will be announced in December of 2023.
The grants, which are part of UWNCNM’s and ACF’s DEI United partnership, will support those who identify as a person of color in a new executive leadership role (two years or less) and emerging leaders that aspire to grow into executive leadership in nonprofit organizations. Along with providing a grant for $10,000 to attain their professional development goals, a contracted facilitator and coach will provide two group facilitations around creating a community of practice within the group and provide a private coaching session for each recipient to develop an action plan to utilize their funding and a follow-up session for support.
“We’re eager to provide support in direct response to identified needs in supporting leadership transition and development,” said Rodney Prunty, President and CEO of United Way of North Central New Mexico. “This initiative will embed equity, commitment, and continuity into our local nonprofit ecosystem.”
The intention of this grant is to replicate this model for other underrepresented communities impacted by systemic inequities by building connected cohorts across marginalized groups and strengthening nonprofit leadership. Learning from this grant initiative will inform future iterations of this type of grant making opportunity. Funding for the leadership initiative has been provided by Bank of America.
